This week, in the heart of Kentucky’s horse country, America’s wild horses have a voice. During Rolex’s thirty-seventh annual three-day event at Kentucky Horse Park, Return to Freedom (RTF), American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (AWHPC) and creators of American Mustang the documentary (AM), share a booth to spread the word about the plight of America’s wild horses and the fight to save their lives.

“As momentum grows to save America’s dwindling herds of wild horses from round-ups, captivity and slaughter in the West, Mustang owners step forward in the East to praise their beloved horses,” said Marika O’Brien, Return to Freedom Project Coordinator.

Not only are individual Mustang owners present at the Rolex event, but the Kentucky Horse Park permanently houses the Kentucky Horse Park Mustang Troop. The Mustang Troop works extensively with Lexington Kentucky’s “at risk” youth and have had 150 students successfully complete their summer program. Mindy Welch, Education Supervisor for Kentucky Horse Park, states, “It’s wonderful to see the American Mustangs being represented at Rolex. They are amazing animals and truly serve as an asset to our program. The mustangs not only teach the children how to be responsible; they teach them how to deal with emotions, how to be a leader, and how to rise above all odds.”

Return to Freedom (RTF) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to wild horse preservation through sanctuary, education and conservation. RTF provides direct care to 400 wild horses at its American Wild Horse Sanctuary in Lompoc, CA., provides hands-on educational programs, national education and advocacy. Return to Freedom is also the founding and parent organization for the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign.

The American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (AWHPC) is a campaign launched by Return to Freedom in 2004, is supported by a coalition of more than 60 horse advocacy, public interest, and conservation organizations dedicated to preserving the American wild horse in viable, free-roaming herds for generations to come, as part of our national heritage.

RTF, AWHPC and AM will be present at Rolex in the trade fair media center. Please stop by to learn more about how you can help America’s Mustangs!
