Title: Development Assistant Intern
Return to Freedom is seeking a Development Assistant Intern to join our nonprofit organization. This is a great opportunity for a student seeking a career in the nonprofit sector, development, marketing, sales, video, photography, design, or business. The Intern will assist the Development team on various projects and tasks to gain experience in the field of donor development. He/She/They will work on a wide variety of projects for social media, retail store promotion, online store website updates, video, and graphics for our year-end fundraising campaign.
Hours are flexible, with a minimum of 15 hours a week. The intern will work in our Lompoc, CA office with some work able to be carried out remotely.
Projects / Learning Outcomes: The intern will be supervised by the Development Director and receive training on Donor Communications and Product Marketing in a nonprofit setting. The intern will learn cross team communications and project management skills, as well as higher proficiency of photography, video, video editing, storytelling ability to construct content and enhance communications as well as the usage of web tools, to drive fundraising and sales.
Assist with product purchase requests, assist in creating sales reports, research additional outlets for merchandise sales (Ebay, Etsy, local consignment), assist in creation of stories for store blog. The intern may also be exposed to working with external vendors, and will learn the basics of inventory tracking software, and nonprofit retail operations. He/She/They will also be able to work with cross departments including Communications, Equine Management, Programs, Administrative Operations, Advocacy, to gain knowledge in these other areas to support development activities. This is a great opportunity to enhance skills in marketing, communications, and learn about running a nonprofit organization.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Passion for the environment and animal welfare
• Use of MS office suite – basic Word, Outlook, and Excel,
• Preferred by not required: video editing in iMovie, creating Gifs, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva.com
• Strong communication (oral, grammar, and writing) skills
• Detail oriented
• Professional presence and demeanor
