Meet Aurora

Aurora is a doe-eyed 26-year-old red roan mare. This beautiful mare was captured from her family and home in the Warm Springs Canyon Herd Management Area in the Calico Mountains Complex on Jan. 15, 2010. The Bureau of Land Management reported that they removed 48 horses from our public lands on that day. Return to Freedom rescued her, along with some 100 additional mares and stallions from the Calico roundup.

For generations, ancestors of cavalry and ranch horses have been surviving in this remote and challenging habitat. They have adapted to this environment and returned to a natural state over the past few hundred years. They are a vital link to our Great Basin heritage.
