Meet Poncho
Poncho is a small burro with dark markings. He is a confident little fellow with a mischievous but endearing personality!
Poncho was born in 2001 at BLM’s Ridgecrest holding corrals in California.
Poncho’s mother, Maggie, was captured from her home range in the Centennial Herd Management Area in Kern County, California.
Poncho and Maggie were adopted and soon after, brought to Return to Freedom’s American Wild Horse Sanctuary in October 2001.
Poncho and his mother Maggie have been able to remain together and have joined 25 other burros who explore the rolling oak-studded hills at the sanctuary. If you see Poncho with his friends, Maggie is never far behind!
