Sevim was born on May 6, 2013, to Jilla and Freedom, members of RTF’s Hart Mountain Herd.

In 1998, 279 wild horses were rounded up from the Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge as part of a complete removal of wild horses by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Twenty-five were relocated to the sanctuary in their original family and social bands.

The horses are diverse shades of roan, bays, and chestnuts. Hart Mountain is very close to Beatty’s Butte where the famous Kiger Mustangs were discovered. The Kigers display a lot of old-world Spanish Barb markings and conformation. Some of the horses captured off Hart Mountain also have strong Spanish Barb characteristics.
