First and foremost, we hope this message reaches each of you and your loved ones in the best of health.
Like all responsible organizations, we are taking the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus very seriously. Our primary concern is your health and wellbeing, and that of our staff, members, their loved ones, and our respective communities.
We at Return to Freedom have not missed a step, because we can’t. Each and every day, our wild horses and burros are provided high-quality feed and hay and direct care when needed. More than 40 of these horses and a few of the burros receive special feed and care. At this time of year, all horses are being fed hay or hay supplementing pasture.
We have made a solemn promise to our sanctuary residents that they will always have a secure home and life, and an equally important promise to supporters like you that we will never fail these horses and burros that we all love.
They’re lucky in a way—they don’t read the papers, or watch the news, or argue partisan politics. That they continue to live peacefully within their herds out of harm’s way at Return to Freedom’s sanctuary is only possible because of caring people like you.
While all of us across the country face this unprecedented challenge in different ways, we hope that you will continue to keep the wild horses and burros you’ve so steadfastly supported in mind during the months to come.
Please give what you can so that we are able to continue providing care and sanctuary during this uncertain time.
To let you know how we’re all doing as we shelter in place, we will do our best to increase streaming footage of the horses and burros so you can see how they’re enjoying the spring.
We wish you and your family good health. There are no words strong enough to thank you for the huge good you have helped to create—with us— for 22 years.
To the Wild Ones, and those who stand with them,
