In 2016 & 2017, Return to Freedom attained a 4 star rating with Charity Navigator. Return to Freedom’s financials are reviewed by an independent certified public accountant. According to CA. Gov Code, a charitable corporation with gross annual revenue of $2M or more and that is already required to field reports with the General Attorney must file an audited financial statement versus a review prepared by an independent certified public accountant. In past years when we’ve exceeded that amount, we have done an audit accordingly.
Charity Navigator’s standards no longer reflect and recognize organizations who do take steps for financial accountability and transparency, such as a review, from organizations who do not take any steps. In 2018 Return to Freedom attained a 3 star rating from Charity Navigator for this reason. We take financial accountability and transparency seriously and are in compliance in accordance with the law.
