Spirit update: Positive news as Spirit starts rehab

/ In The News, News

Update: Our very special 31-year-old stallion, Spirit, has been up, eating like a horse, and going on walks.

In recent weeks, he struggled to stand after lying down, which scared him. We’ve now rigged up a hoist to help get him up, and we’ve begun rehab to strengthen his hind end.

Spirit’s now living in our main barn, with his mares and his favorite two donkeys right next to him. He’s getting lots of attention — which he loves. Throughout this, he’s been calm and trusting. He really is a special horse.

With a lot of love and therapy, we hope that Spirit will recover. Proud stallion that he is, we’re sure that being able to get up on his own will make a big difference to him emotionally. 🙂

We’re so grateful for the outpouring of love and concern that we’ve received! Your prayers matter. We’ll keep you all posted.

Thank you to Spirit’s amazing care team, RTF staff and our local community, including:

Dr. Lopez from Alamo Pintado Equine, Todd Gregory of King Fisher Farms, and Sandy Rakowitz,

Granite Construction for rushing a donation of sand for his new rehab stall in the vet barn, and RLF trucking in Buellton for delivering the sand last minute!

Thank you Sarah May Sommers for making the video.

Every day is a blessing!
