Meet Jenny
Meet Jenny! Jenny is a shy but sweet burro. Our vets have estimated that she was born in 2019. Jenny came to Return to Freedom in August of 2023 after being rescued from an Auction House/ Kill pen in Bowie, Texas where she and nine other burros were bound for Mexico to be slaughtered for their meat and hides. Fortunately, our friends at All Seated in a Barn were on site that day and were able to pull Jenny, her friends, and many other equids at risk of being shipped to slaughter. Once their place at Return to Freedom was secured, All Seated in a Barn was also able to raise funds to hold, transport, and geld the jacks to Return to Freedom’s sanctuary in Lompoc. Though we do not know where the burros came from originally, we believe they are from varied origins and were possibly used for breeding. Jenny was the only female in the group of ten burros rescued that day! Many of the burros were able to find loving homes together near the sanctuary but Jenny and her best bud, Clyde, were the most nervous of handling so we have decided to release them together here at the sanctuary where they can choose to be near people, or not, and where they will have lifelong care.
