In 2004, Mocha Chip arrived at Return to Freedom’s Sanctuary with 15 other furry burros who had just been captured off of the Sheldon Fish and Wildlife Refuge in Nevada. Mocha Chip lives in the sanctuary’s magical oak forest with 25 friends.

He is very shy but you can usually spot him watching you from a safe vantage point. We are not sure exactly how old he is but he is most likely in his early twenties now!

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service continued to remove all horses and burros from the Refuge and in 2014 the last wild horses and burros were removed.
