Happy Easter from Return to Freedom!

Sometimes, spring arrives on thin, wobbly legs.

Just a few weeks ago, 112 Gila horses traveled to Nevada after enduring severe weather for months straight in South Dakota.

Pregnant mares, weanlings and almost 50 stallions arrived to Nevada where we have leased a temporary facility where they are receiving needed care before moving across the state line to Northern California pastures sprinkled with pine trees and two blue lakes.

Three fillies, one colt – and counting. The next filly born will be named “Easter.”

Return to Freedom’s rescue of the now 116-strong Gila herd is part of a larger effort we have been involved with since last October to help over 900 at-risk horses reach new homes.

In this season of renewal, we can be proud of what we have accomplished together, so far, as part of what we believe is the biggest horse rescue in U.S. history.

For the still-growing Gila herd, a new beginning is days away.

Wishing you and yours a wondrous and joyous spring,

Neda DeMayo and the RTF staff
