#GivingTuesday is off to a great start for wild horses and burros, thanks to Return to Freedom’s generous supporters!
In the first 14 hours, donors contributed more than $42,000 to help run our sanctuary, fund advocacy work and provide experiential learning opportunities. That includes matching funds from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Altogether, it will cover 2.8% of our annual funding needs — and the day is far from over!
RTF is participating in GlobalGiving’s #GivingTuesday #MatchAMillion matching challenge along with a host of other worth charities. So far, RTF is ranked eighth overall.
We’re proud to be the only domestic cause and animal welfare organization ranked in the top 15 among 3,207 projects.
One-time matching funds have been depleted, but a match for recurring donors is still available. All new recurring donations made from #GivingTuesday until Dec. 31 will be matched at 200%, up to $100, upon the fourth donation, by the Gates Foundation.
Here’s how that works: If you make a $12.50 monthly donation for four months, that translates to $162.50 after a 200% match in March 2017. So that $12.50 donation can grow to cover the cost of an educational program or even pay for seven bales of hay, from hay field to the horse’s mouth!
Another example: If you were to give $50 for four months, your donation would increase to $300 after the match — enough to pay for a humane observer to document a helicopter roundup for two days.

We’re hugely grateful to everyone who has given to help wild horses and burros.
