Spirit’s yearlong 25th birthday celebration continues!

Return to Freedom needs your support! Online auction relaunches this Friday, Sept. 25!

Because of COVID-19, we were unable to hold a special benefit that was scheduled for May in honor of Spirit, but we hope you’ll be able to celebrate the Kiger mustang who served as muse and model for the animators of DreamWorks’ 2002 Oscar-nominated film “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron!” Since Spirit’s arrival at Return to Freedom’s Lompoc, Calif., headquarters sanctuary in 2003, the handsome, mischievous stallion has remained a favorite of visitors of all ages, including young viewers of DreamWorks Animation’s Netflix spin-off series, “Sprit: Riding Free.”

We are still hoping you will join us virtually and support RTF through our online auction and store, with exclusive Spirit event merchandise and others including: “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” and “Spirit: Riding Free” collectibles, exclusive experiences to meet Spirit and some of our wild herds at the sanctuary.

Highlights include:

  • Video messages from friends of Spirit, including insights from animation director Lorna Cook and screenwriter John Fusco
  • Footage of Spirit
  • Downloadable Spirit coloring pages

New additions to the page:

Along with Spirit’s planned in-person birthday benefit event, we’ve been unable to hold most of our summer educational programs, an important source of income for the sanctuary, due to health concerns.

Please consider making a donation, as it will have a direct and immediate impact on the wild horses and burros at RTF’s sanctuaries, including more than 50 who, like Spirit, are now ages 25-older.Many now require special feed and supplements, along with veterinary and other special care.

We hope you’ll join us in the fun (and important!) celebration of our beloved stallion Spirit.

Thank you for your loyal support.
